BE SURE TO SIGN UP AND BRING FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND NEIGHBORS ON OCTOBER 30 Dr. Tallamy is a nationally known and respected author and speaker on preserving and restoring local ecosystems. He is the author of Bringing Nature Home and the coauthor of The Living Landscape. A link to the NY Times article “To Feed the Birds, First Feed the Bugs” is attached. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2008/03/06/garden/06garden.html?referer=&_r=0 It describes how and why Dr. Tallamy and his wife work to achieve a bird beneficial landscape. His premise is to encourage the planting of native species, as they are crucial for insects and animals to flourish. As he states, when exotics take over the landscape, many creatures starve to death because they did not evolve with the exotics and simply can’t eat them. When native habitats are destroyed, local wildlife populations may be headed toward extinction. For more detailed information on him, see the link below to the “Growing a Greener World episode on Dr. Tallamy which also includes his coauthor Rick Darke. It is an excellent episode that explains Dr. Tallamy’s concept fully. http://www.growingagreenerworld.com/bringing-nature-home/ He is a great author and speaker, and will be available for book signings, too. It should be a fun-filled day, with door prizes, beverages, etc. It is FREE but you need to register. It may fill up fast, so do it now!
